Abstract

In many cylindrical vessels, if there is a hole at the bottom, a vortex can form when water flows out through the hole at the bottom of the vessel. The formation of vortexes is a serious problem as they lead to a significant reduction in the flow capacity of drainage holes and hinder the normal functioning of these devices. This issue is especially problematic when such a device is installed in a hydroturbine, such as a micro-hydropower station, as this reduction in flow velocity results in a decrease in the power output of the hydropower station. Therefore, there has been a question of studying the potential occurrence of vortex flow and its prospects. In connection with this, a schematic calculation was performed to derive the working equation of the vortex flow velocity and to plot the relationship between the reduction in water velocity in the vortex and the increase in the distance from the rotation radius to the center of rotation.
