Abstract

A method for determining transverse circulation flows in curved sections of open turbulent water flows is proposed, based on the hypothesis that the transverse slope of the free surface is determined by the ratio of two groups of forces — centrifugal forces F1 and hydrostatic pressure forces F2. Based on this hypothesis, an analytical expression was obtained that makes it possible to relate the magnitude of the transverse surface slope to the intensity of secondary flows. Mathematical modeling and analysis of the derived theoretical relationships confirm the effectiveness of the method and the possibility of its application in engineering hydraulics.
